PRB gets ready for 2013 report

The Pay Research Bureau (PRB) has initiated large-scale plans for the preparation of the PRB Report 2013.

The submission deadline has been set for late October 2012, just weeks before the budget 2013 will be announced.

Mohun Aujayeb, acting director and his team started the necessary procedures after receiving the green light from the Prime minister Dr Navin Ramgoolam on December 8.

According to Aujayeb, the main objective of the PRB is to allow the officials to make up for the loss of purchasing power during the period 2008 to 2012.

Thus, the PRB has established a schedule of work over several stages from December 2011 to October 2012.

Around 20 technicians are expected to carefully analyse the various economic indicators including the gross domestic product (GDP) and inflation rate before proceeding with their recommendations.

The PRB is also seeing the performance of officials in the preparation of its report, five years after the publication of the PRB Report 2008 at a cost of Rs 5.2 billion.

The PRB officers have been working since last December, during which they began preliminary discussions with various federations, who have to submit their proposals by April 15, 2011.

The most important step which is the pay determination and conversion is scheduled for May. This exercise, which aims to determine wage increase, must be completed by September.

Aujayeb said that his priority is to compensate for the loss of purchasing power. “We are currently working on three major components, namely the structure of organisations, working conditions and salary review. We will do the maximum and in the interests of workers while taking into consideration the economic situation, before submitting our recommendations in the report PRB 2013,” he said.
